Cinnamon Apple Moscow Mule
Despite its name, the Moscow Mule is actually an American creation. The story goes that in the 1940s, John Martin, who owned the rights to a Russian vodka brand, met Jack Morgan, the owner of a struggling ginger beer company, at the Chatham Hotel in New York City. Together, they mixed their products and poured the cocktail into copper mugs that had been gifted to Jack by his girlfriend, Sophie Berezinski, a Russian copper heiress. And just like that, a classic was born.
I love a good Moscow Mule, but during the holidays, I like to make mine a little more festive with the addition of apple cider and a cinnamon stick. Serving it in a copper mug isn’t required, but I think it tastes better that way.
PROCESS
Fill a cocktail shaker and a copper mule cup with ice. In the shaker, add the vodka, apple cider, and lime juice. Shake vigorously. Strain into the copper cup and garnish with apple slice and cinnamon stick.
