Autumn Negroni
One of my favorite cocktails is a negroni, originating in Florence, Italy at the Caffè Casoni. I was introduced to the negroni by my friend, Gil in Tel Aviv, Israel. It’s his favorite drink and he shared it with me on numerous occasions. Recently, I was in Rome sitting at a table outside the Pantheon and I struck up a conversation with a woman sitting near me. Her name is Yanini and she had recently moved to Rome from Brazil. We became close friends and she told me she knew we would get along because she saw me drinking a negroni, her favorite cocktail. The original negroni is made with equal parts gin, Campari, and vermouth, but in autumn months I add a rosemary branch and bitters made by my friend Alejandro in Mexico City. He is thrilled to know his homemade bitters have made their way into my favorite cocktail. I guess it’s safe to say that I’ve attracted like-minded friends around the world with just a glass of amber liquid that connects people and warms the soul.
